Extended dry spells? Annoying water restrictions? Foreclosed house on the market? Living in a desert? It has become more difficult than ever to keep up with the Jones’. But you need never worry about maintaining a lush, green lawn with fussy fertilizers and overseeding when you can spray paint it and be the envy of the entire neighbourhood.
According to Xtreme Green grass painters in Arizona:
Grass paint is a new creative way to get your grass green instantly for parties, get-togethers, or for the sale of a home or business. Our staff can visit your location and spray a special non-toxic paint for your grass. This is an environmentally friendly dye that turns your grass green until you mow it. It takes about two hours to dry and will last for three to four months. Additionally, it does not wash off in the rain. Street appeal means quite a bit. It’s like make-up for your lawn.
Wow. Thought about lifting my turf and xeriscaping with drought resistant plants or edibles. Thought about overseeding it with clover that stays green and doesn’t require mowing. Thought about letting it go seasonally dormant as it is naturally meant to do. But make-up for my lawn? Never thought about that. I don’t know what bothers me most about this, the cheesy conceit or the incredibly mundane approach to the task. I think the Arizona folks need to bump it up to an art form. I’m thinking lawn stencils, multi-coloured paints and lots of glitter glue.
Now mowing patterns of hearts, words and celtic knots into my lawn seems way more sane. David Parfitt, a landscape artist who creates site-specific large-scale artworks from natural materials shows how in Lawnscapes: How to Mow Patterns to Make Your Yard a Work of Art.
And speaking of large-scale, plant- and grass-based artworks, check out the Landprint project in Budapest. The aim of the Landprint project is to reproduce subtle patterns and photos by combining various species of plants with programmed robotics. Plants and flowers that spawn seem to make continuous patterns with their various colours and shades seen from a distance. With the use of programmed robotics for the planting and cutting of plants, we can manipulate the evolving patterns, to render photo-like, delicate images.
Or the art made with growing grass on a canvas. Or these amazing grass sculptures. Way, WAY more fun to compulsively obsess over these than a boring old traditional rectangle.
